Antique Cars in Texas

Age Requirements

According to Texas state regulations, antique car tags are assigned to vehicles that are at least 25 years old. To qualify as an antique vehicle, the car must also be considered a collector's item and be used only for that purpose. Classic cars, on the other hand, must be at least 50 years old.

Inspections and Fees

In Texas, most vehicles must be inspected once a year. However, antique vehicles are exempt from this requirement. Instead, they must be inspected within 90 days of their registration date. The fee for an antique vehicle inspection is $50.

Antique vehicles are also issued one license plate, which must be displayed on the rear of the vehicle. The fee for an antique license plate is $50.
