Biden Targets Israeli Settlers in the West Bank
U.S. Sanctions and Financial Penalties
Washington D.C.
President Joe Biden has issued an executive order targeting Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. The order authorizes the U.S. Treasury to impose sanctions on Israelis involved in violent attacks against Palestinians. The Treasury has already named four individuals as targets: David Chai Chasdai, 29, Yitzhak Gabai, 31, Amitai Porat, 31, and Meir Ettinger, 28.
The sanctions include freezing assets, travel bans, and other financial penalties. The Biden administration says the measures are necessary to deter further violence and promote stability in the region.
The United Kingdom has also imposed sanctions against Israeli settlers accused of attacking Palestinians. The UK action follows similar steps taken by the European Union.
The Israeli government has condemned the sanctions, calling them "unfair and unjustified." The government says the settlers are victims of Palestinian violence and deserve protection.
The sanctions are a sign of growing international concern about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The international community is calling for an end to violence and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
