IT Outage Makes PCs Run Blue

Faulty Security Patch Disrupts Businesses Worldwide

By Techcrunch Staff

A faulty software update issued by security giant CrowdStrike has resulted in a massive overnight outage that's affected Windows computers around the world.

The outage, which began on Friday, was caused by a coding error in an update to CrowdStrike's Falcon sensor program. The error sent millions of Windows computers worldwide into a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), rendering them unusable.

CrowdStrike told NBC that it is in the process of rolling out a fix for the issue. However, the company has not yet said when the fix will be available.

The outage has had a major impact on businesses around the world. Many companies have been unable to access their files or applications, and some have even been forced to close.

Security experts said CrowdStrike's routine update of its widely used cybersecurity software is a reminder that even the most well-intentioned software updates can have unintended consequences.
