'Shōgun' and 'Hacks' Win Biggest Awards of the Night

The 2024 Emmy Awards are underway, and the biggest awards of the night have already been handed out.

'Shōgun', the historical drama series about a Portuguese sailor who becomes a samurai in 16th-century Japan, won the award for Outstanding Drama Series. The show also won awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Ken Watanabe) and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Hiro Murai).

'Hacks', the comedy series about a legendary comedian and her young writer, won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show also won awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Jean Smart) and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky).

Other big winners of the night include 'Succession', which won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Jeremy Strong) and 'Ted Lasso', which won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Hannah Waddingham).
